Embodiment Construction

[0030] In general, the present disclosure describes example techniques and systems related to determining a patient's heart failure status based on at least one value of a natural frequency of a pressure cycle of an estimated arterial pressure waveform associated with the patient's cardiac function and determined based on an arterial impedance signal. A medical device comprising a plurality of electrodes, or processing circuitry of a system comprising the medical device, may determine an estimated arterial pressure waveform of a patient based on arterial impedance signals received from at least two electrodes of the plurality of electrodes. For example, the processing circuitry may determine an estimated arterial pressure waveform by processing (eg, filtering) the arterial impedance signal to identify one or more components of the arterial impedance signal that vary with arterial pressure, such as estimating a natural frequency of the arterial pressure waveform. The estimated a...

Abstract

In some examples, determining of a heart failure status of a patient using a medical device comprising a plurality of electrodes includes determining an estimated arterial pressure waveform of the patient based on an arterial impedance signal received from at least two of the plurality of electrodes. The estimated arterial pressure waveform may comprise a plurality of arterial pressure cycles. Each of the plurality of arterial pressure cycles may correspond to a different cardiac cycle of a plurality of cardiac cycles of the patient. At least one value of an intrinsic frequency of the corresponding arterial pressure cycle may be determined for at least some of the plurality of cardiac cycles and the heart failure status of the patient may be determined based on the at least one value of the intrinsic frequency.

Description

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to medical device systems, and more particularly, to medical device systems configured to monitor patient parameters. Background technique [0002] Some types of medical devices may be used to monitor one or more physiological parameters of a patient, such as physiological parameters associated with cardiac function. Such medical devices may comprise or be part of a system comprising sensors to detect signals associated with such physiological parameters, eg blood pressure parameters. Values determined based on such signals can be used to assist in detecting changes in medical conditions, assessing the efficacy of therapy, or assessing patient health in general. [0003] A medical device that monitors a physiological parameter related to a patient's medical condition may evaluate values associated with the physiological parameter, such as to determine whether the value exceeds a threshold or has changed over time. Values t...
