Embodiment Construction

[0040] Some portions of the detailed description that follows are presented in terms of data processing procedures, steps or other symbolic representations of operations on data bits that may be performed on a computer memory. Accordingly, computers perform such logical steps requiring physical manipulations of physical quantities.

[0041] Usually these quantities take the form of electrical or magnetic signals capable of being stored, transferred, combined, compared, and otherwise manipulated in a computer system. For reasons of common usage, these signals are called bits, packets, messages, values, elements, symbols, characters, terms, numbers, or the like.

[0042] Furthermore, all of these and similar terms are to be to be associated with the appropriate physical quantities and are merely convenient labels applied to these quantities. Terms such as "process" or "create" or "transmit" or "execute" or "determine" or "detect" or "obtain" or "select" or "calculate" or "gener...

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method of automatically driven vehicles, AV (703) that are tele-operated driving, TOD, in cases when the AV (703) is not able to solve a situation, e.g., due to unclear traffic conditions. Because TOD sessions arise from special, unclear and relatively rare circumstances and apply measures which might go against normal traffic rules (e.g. a traffic control officer directs vehicles onto a cycling path due to the road being blocked) or normal behaviour expected from an AV, according to the solution a vehicle informs other AV's in the vicinity of the TOD session. Furthermore, according to another aspect of the present disclosure, other vehicles use the information on the TOD session to aid their situational awareness and driving.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an automated vehicle and a method of operating an automated vehicle. In particular, the present invention relates to a method for an autonomous vehicle AV in a situation where the autonomous vehicle AV cannot resolve the traffic situation through automatic driving. Background technique [0002] The state of the art defines self-driving cars, also known as AVs, autonomous vehicles, driverless cars, robotic cars or robotic cars, which are vehicles capable of sensing their environment and moving safely with little or no human input . [0003] Self-driving cars use a combination of sensors to perceive their surroundings, such as radar, lidar, sonar, GPS, odometry, and inertial measurement units. Advanced control systems interpret information obtained from sensors to identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and associated signs. [0004] Additionally, automotive applications and mobile communications ar...
