Problems solved by technology

However, fluids used for this purpose, such as saline, tend to dissipate within minutes and may require periodic refilling to ensure that the targeted tissue remains elevated throughout the procedure
More viscous injectable solutions have been identified, but these alternatives are often expensive, difficult to inject and / or also prone to dissipate / break down too quickly after injection

example 1

[0082] This example describes an exemplary procedure for preparing a gel composition according to an embodiment of the invention. Specifically, 1.125 g of Kelcogel CG-LA gellan gum and 0.01 g of FD&C Blue No. 1 were added to 899 g of water to form a premix. The premix was heated with stirring until 75°C was reached. Then, 8.1 g of sodium chloride and 0.132 g of calcium chloride dihydrate were added and blended into the heated premix to form a mixture. The mixture was then introduced into the barrel of a 10cc syringe. Filled syringes were sterilized by autoclaving at about 122°C for about 30 minutes.

[0083] A cone-plate rheometer (DHR-1 from TA Instruments) with a 60mm cone, a cone angle of 01°:01:01s, and a cut-off gap of 28 μm was used to test the viscosity. At least 1.00379 mL of the test sample was injected into the Peltier plate through a 23 gauge port and the temperature of the plate was maintained at 37°C for at least 60 seconds before the test was performed. Abstract

Compositions including gels, useful for tissue resection procedures, medical devices comprising the compositions, and related methods of preparing the compositions are discussed. The composition may comprise gellan gum, two or more salts, and water. In some aspects, the composition may be prepared by combining gellan gum and water to form a pre-mixture, heating the pre-mixture, adding two or moresalts to the heated pre-mixture to form a mixture, introducing the mixture into a reservoir, and allowing the mixture to form a gel inside the reservoir. The gel may have a continuous, three-dimensional structure, and have desired gel strength and viscosity. The composition may be biocompatible and injectable from the reservoir through a needle to the target site of a patient.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 628,709, filed February 9, 2018, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to compositions for injection into patients, methods for their preparation and use, and devices comprising such compositions. Background technique [0004] Various medical procedures for the diagnosis and / or treatment of tissues. For example, endoscopic procedures may be performed to obtain tissue samples from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract or other organ systems for pathological evaluation and / or therapeutic purposes, such as detection and removal of precancerous mucosal tissue or tumors. However, it can be challenging to remove selected portions of tissue from a patient with minimal disturbance to the underlying anatomy. [0005] During medical procedures such as endoscopic mucosal...
