[0084] Description of Adhesive Ink:

[0085] The binder consists of a plurality of cellulose nanocrystalline (CNC) particles dispersed in water. The concentration of CNC can be as high as 20 mass percent (wt %) or as low as 0.01 mass percent. Once mixed with wood flour or wood chips, the wood flour adheres to the surface of the wood chips, and after the water evaporates, the CNC acts as an adhesive between the wood chips. Binder can be blended with wood powder / chips into a homogeneous mixture for deposition methods such as: dispenser printing or direct printing on multiple layers of wood powder / chips for binder jetting / powder printers middle.

[0086] figure 1 The viscosity of the binder ink without the wood chips is shown. Xyloglucan (XG) can be used as an additive.

[0087] Rheology of ink:

[0088] CNC suspension with low surface charge density (Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) size: 88.37 nm (0.379PdI), figure 1 ), the CNC suspension was prepared via sulfuric acid h...

Abstract

The invention generally concerns methods and printing inks comprising wood chips / wood powder and plant-extracted natural binders for constructing wood 3D structures.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to various wooden objects and methods of producing wooden objects. Background technique [0002] Wood composite resins are a key factor in the digital deposition and processing of wooden objects. Among the currently known resins, urea-formaldehyde (UF) and phenol-formaldehyde (PF) are the most widely used resins. Formaldehyde in wood composites is strictly limited by legislation to less than 0.05ppm (RAL-UZ 38). Another synthetic resin designed to avoid the use of formaldehyde is methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI). MDI is an allergen and sensitizer to isocyanates. Despite its low vapor pressure, MDI is considered a strongly reactive material towards water and other nucleophiles and is therefore not industrially attractive. [0003] Therefore, there is a need for objects, such as furniture and wood tiles, free of the above-mentioned substances and other harmful chemicals. [0004] Cellulose nanocrystals ar...
