The compound power supply management system comprises a starter, a storage battery, a super capacitor, an engine, an electric generator and a power management unit. If the current state of a vehicle is the start state and the state-of-charge value of the storage battery is smaller than or equal to a preset state-of-chargevalue, under the condition that the voltage value of the storage battery is smaller than or equal to a first preset voltage value, the power management unit controls the storage battery and the supercapacitor to be connected in series to form a compound power supply. The compound power supply is used for starting the starter. In the compound power supply management system and method, the power management unit controls the storage battery and the super capacitor to be connected in series to form the compound power supply; due to the fact that the storage battery and the super capacitor are connected in series, when the vehicle is started, deep discharging of the storage battery can be avoided, voltage of the storage battery cannot be substantially reduced, the service life of the storagebattery is prolonged, and it is ensured that electricity utilization devices on the vehicle can normally work; and meanwhile, compared with the scheme of starting the starter by independently utilizing the super capacity, cost is low.
