Problems solved by technology

However, measuring plethysmographic changes in the aorta from impedance signals measured between limbs is complicated because the contribution of these changes to the measured waveform is very small compared to other arteries in the limbs, and therefore, the time interval of the measurements is different. Certainty is expected to be large

Embodiment Construction

[0037] exist figure 1 In a first embodiment of the invention shown, the PTT of the arm is measured by a system integrated in a hand-held device (1) comprising two pairs of electrodes (2) connected to The index finger of each hand of the subject is in contact with the middle finger, and the PPG sensor (3) is in contact with the ring finger of the arm to be examined.

[0038] The IPG signal between the two upper extremities is measured by the excitation system (4) and the analog processing system (5), which injects a high-frequency current, which passes through the upper chest of the subject under test in one hand. The index finger cycles between the index fingers of the other hand, and the analog processing system (5) takes measurements between the middle finger of one hand and the middle finger of the other hand.

[0039] The digital processing module (6) then detects the end (foot) of the IPG wave measured between the two hands and the end (foot) of the PPG wave measured on ...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method and device for estimating the transit time (PTT) of the arterial pulse in different arterial sections from measurements carried out using sensors disposed only in distal zones of the two upper extremities or at the two lower extremities. Firstly, the arrival of the pulse wave at a zone of the extremities next to the torso is detected in the impedance plethysmography (IPG) measured between the two upper extremities or between the two lower extremities, which reflects changes in zones closest to the zone where the measuring electrodes are disposed. Secondly, another time reference is obtained from a pulse signal measured in a distal zone using traditional methods. When the first pulse signal is the IPG between the two upper extremities, the second pulse signal can be the IPG between the two lower extremities. The PTT is estimated from the time interval measured between the respective instances of arrival of the pulse wave in the first and in the second signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to systems for physically measuring physiological parameters, and more particularly to methods and devices for estimating arterial pulse transit time from measurements acquired by sensors placed only in the distal region of the extremity. Background technique [0002] Pulse transit time (PTT) is defined as the time interval between the arrival of a pulse wave at a relatively proximal location and its arrival at a relatively distal location. Therefore, it describes the propagation of the pulse wave generated by the ejection of blood from the heart to the aorta and is an important parameter in assessing the health of the cardiovascular system. For example, PTT allows assessment of arterial stiffness, which is increasingly becoming a widely accepted marker of cardiovascular disease risk. Arterial stiffness is associated with cardiovascular risk factors and the presence of atherosclerotic disease, and its applicabil...
