[0157] In a 5 L round bottom flask, 80.3 g (493 mmol) of DVB (80 wt%, technical grade), 30.3 g (309 mmol) of MA and 2.25 g (9.29 mmol) of BPO were dissolved in 2153 g of EtOAc. The polymerizable composition has 5.0% by weight solids in EtOAc and contains a monomer mixture (58.1% by weight DVB, 27.3% by weight MA, and 14.5% by weight styrenic monomer based on the total weight of monomers) and 2% by weight BPO (based on total weight of monomers). Nitrogen was bubbled through the polymerizable composition for 30 minutes. The flask was then capped and placed in a sand bath at 95°C. The polymerizable composition was heated at this elevated temperature for 18 hours. The white precipitate formed was isolated by vacuum filtration and washed with EtOAc. The solids were separated and placed in three 32 oz jars. The jars were then each filled with 750 mL of EtOAc. The solid was allowed to stand in EtOAc for one hour at room temperature. The solid was isolated again by vacuum filtr...

Abstract

Methods of sorbing carbon dioxide on porous, hydrolyzed divinylbenzene / maleic anhydride polymeric sorbents are provided. Additionally, compositions resulting from sorbing carbon dioxide on porous, hydrolyzed divinylbenzene / maleic anhydride polymeric sorbents are provided. The porous polymeric sorbents typically have micropores, mesopores, or a combination thereof and can selectively remove carbondioxide from other gases such as methane or hydrogen.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Provisional Application 62 / 182067, filed June 19, 2015, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] Provided herein are methods of adsorbing carbon dioxide and compositions resulting from the adsorption of carbon dioxide on porous hydrolyzed divinylbenzene / maleic anhydride polymer adsorbents. Background technique [0004] Energy generated from coal and natural gas requires the removal of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) technology, carbon dioxide is a gaseous impurity in both processes. The low cost and global abundance of both coal and natural gas ensures that these two natural resources will continue to be used for energy production for many years to come. Efforts are needed to develop technologies to achieve this by developing selective, high-capacity CO 2 Adsorbents to ameliorate unwanted CO 2 removed. [0005] To genera...
