The method comprises the following steps: after acquiring configuration information transmitted by various terminals by a server, determining equipment groups that the various terminals belong to and the classification of master-slave devices in various equipment groups by the server according to an equipment group grouping strategy, a master-slave equipment classification strategy and each of the configuration information; for each terminal as primary equipment in each equipment group, downloading an upgrade file from the server; for each terminal as slave equipment in each equipment group, transmitting information of a terminal as the primary equipment in the equipment group to the terminal by the server; and downloading the upgrade file by each terminal as the slave equipment from the terminal as the primary equipment. According to the upgrade file download method provided by the invention, since the terminals are divided into a plurality of equipment groups and master-slave equipment distinguishing is performed on the terminals, only terminals as the primary equipment in various equipment groups transmit an upgrade request to the server, so that the number of upgrade requests received by the server is reduced, which is beneficial to reducing the processing burden of the server; and after that, the server only transmits upgrade file data to the terminals as the primary equipment in various equipment groups, so that the network load is reduced.
