Abstract

The invention provides an HEVC complexity control method based on a coding unit hierarchy and rate distortion cost. The HEVC complexity control method comprises steps that a user sets a video coding target complexity coefficient; the complexity of each coding unit hierarchy in the first GOP is counted, the complexity ratio of the coding unit hierarchies is calculated and by combining the different coding unit hierarchies, different thresholds are obtained; and a target complexity is equally distributed in each frame in a to-be-coded GOP, the complexity is equally distributed to coding tree units, the number of two continuous coding unit hierarchies is selected according to the distributed complexity and the number and the position of each coding unit hierarchy is determined. According to the HEVC complexity control method, by considering the coding unit hierarchies and the rate distortion cost, introduction of additional complexity is avoided in the whole method; a special training video sequence is not required; any video can be directly coded; and effective control on the complexity is achieved in a certain range in the GOP level.
