Provided is a virtual machine migration method for migrating a virtual machine from a source physical machine applying a first virtual software to a destination physical machine applying a second virtual software, the method comprising: transferring an image file and a basic profile of the virtual machine from the source physical machine to the destination physical machine, the basic profile being a part common to a profile of the first virtual software and a profile of the second virtual software; at the destination physical machine, combining the basic profile with an extended profile in the destination physical machine to obtain a profile of the second virtual software; and creating a virtual machine on the destination physical machine according to the image file and the profile of the second virtual software.
