[0019] In general, this disclosure describes techniques for object recognition in images. These techniques reduce the computational complexity of identifying objects in images and support early exit from the object detection pipeline. Rather than extracting feature descriptors after analyzing the entire image, the techniques of the present invention allow for detection of features within a tile (ie, a subset of the image). After processing each tile, the number of detected features may be compared to a threshold and then compared to an object database. Tiling can be applied to one or more octets. In general, each octet corresponds to a particular size (eg, pixel resolution) of an image. For a given octet, the input image may be scaled to the size associated with the resolution.
