Embodiment Construction

[0038]Before referring to the figures, some aspects are described below: Minimally invasive image-guided tumor ablation techniques are becoming an important treatment option for tumors due to advances in imaging technology and the availability of highly controllable medical devices. Currently, three ablation methods are used. The first, radiofrequency ablation (RF), involves the use of electric current in the range of radiofrequency waves passed through a needle, which heats and destroys cancer cells. The goal is to ablate the tumor as well as a rim of normal tissue surrounding its borders. The second, microwave ablation (MW), uses microwaves to induce thermal coagulation of tissue. Its ablation diameter is smaller than with radiofrequency ablation, but enables the use of multiple needles to achieve larger ablation volumes. Tissue ablation is achieved in a shorter time compared to radiofrequency ablation. The third, cryoablation, is the use of frozen gas circulated inside a...

Abstract

The present invention relates to tumour targeting ablation planning. As a facilitated and improved image-based planning method, a method (100) for tumour targeting ablation planning is provided: At least one segmented tumour in a 3D data set (112) to be treated in an ablation procedure is provided (110). A contour (116) of the segmented tumour is generated and displayed (114). A predetermined ablation profile (120) to overlap with at least a part of the at least one segmented tumour is provided and displayed (118). An overlapping region (124) is identified (122) and a predetermined safety factor (128) is applied (126) to at least a part of the overlapping region to generate (130) a modified overlapping region (132). Parts of the overlapping region arranged outside the modified overlapping region are then determined (134) as critical overlapping portions (136). The critical overlapping portions are displayed (138) in relation with the contour and the ablation profile as virtual planning ablation result (140).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to tumor-targeted ablation planning, and in particular to a planning device for tumor-targeted ablation planning, a medical system for tumor-targeted ablation, and a method for tumor-targeted ablation planning , and a computer program element and a computer readable medium. Background technique [0002] Minimally invasive image-guided tumor ablation techniques are becoming, for example, a viable treatment option for a variety of unresectable or non-dissectable tumors. The goal of tumor ablation is to completely kill tumor cells. Therefore, the size, shape and position of the ablation zone are evaluated during the planning step prior to the intervention. For example, WO2010 / 0063496 Al describes a method for planning a tumor ablation procedure. However, tumor-targeted ablation planning is usually planned with freehand lines, and the outcome of the procedure may vary from operator to operator. Contents of the invention ...
