Benefits of technology

The present invention aims to provide better patient monitoring systems and create a unique profile of a patient that offers personalized information and mapping of their daily experience. This is accomplished through telemetry systems that work in conjunction with a patient monitoring device.

Problems solved by technology

This bedside monitoring equipment became larger, more complex and expensive as each bedside unit undertook to monitor more physiological data and provide more sophisticated displays, e.g. color, more and better communications and more in-depth analysis of the data, such as calculation of vital signs and trends which required memory and processing capability.
The provision of such units at each appropriate patient bedside introduces considerable additional expense to the hospital patient care costs.
One problem with conventional medical telemetry systems is that the process of removing telemetry system components for purposes of performing a medical procedure or diagnostic examination can generate a false alarm.
False alarms unnecessarily tax hospital resources and interfere with the working environment.

Embodiment Construction

[0040]As used herein, the term engine refers to software, firmware, hardware, or other component that can be used to effectuate a purpose. The engine will typically include software instructions that are stored in non-volatile memory (also referred to as secondary memory). When the software instructions are executed, at least a subset of the software instructions can be loaded into memory (also referred to as primary memory) by a processor. The processor then executes the software instructions in memory. The processor may be a shared processor, a dedicated processor, or a combination of shared or dedicated processors. A typical program will include calls to hardware components (such as I / O devices), which typically requires the execution of drivers. The drivers may or may not be considered part of the engine, but the distinction is not critical.

[0041]As used herein, the term database is used broadly to include any known or convenient means for storing data, whether centralized or di...

Abstract

A system for using telemetry data based on a patient habit information includes patient monitoring device coupled to a patient monitoring device that has a unique patient ID, and acquires patient information selected from of at least one of, a patient's activities, behaviors and habit information. The patient monitoring device includes ID circuitry that includes ID storage, a communication system which reads and transmits the unique ID from the ID storage, a power source and a pathway system to route signals through the circuitry. The telemetry system communicates with the patient monitoring device. The telemetry system includes a database of patient ID's. Telemetry data is analyzed using the telemetry system based on at least one of, patient's activities, behaviors and habit information. Personalized information about the patient is created.

Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS[0001]This application claims the benefit of U.S. 61 / 772,265 filed Mar. 4, 2013 and U.S. 61 / 812,083 filed Apr. 15, 2013, both of which applications are incorporated herein by reference.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0002]1. Field of the Invention[0003]The present invention is directed to patient monitoring devices and telemetry systems, and more particularly to intelligent, patient monitoring devices with unique ID's for each patient that gather telemetry data based on a patient's habits, conditions or parameters, with the patient monitoring devices being in communication with one or more telemetry systems.[0004]2. Description of the Related Art[0005]Patient monitoring was accomplished by electronic equipment maintained at the patient's bedside. Vital signs derived from physiological waveforms were monitored with the bedside equipment and alarms were generated if predetermined limits were exceeded by the vital signs. This bedside monitoring equipm...
