[0013] Most current commercial aircraft rely on an inertial reference system or unit for precise determination of aircraft attitude and heading. The inertial reference unit (IRU) is typically a line replaceable unit (LRU) that is designed for easy installation and removal. Use of the IRU as an aircraft specific tool for alignment of auxiliary equipment to be mounted to the aircraft eliminates the need for additional dedicated and complex tooling for that task.
