Embodiment Construction

[0020] refer to Figure 1A , showing an example of the structure of a TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) cellular communication system.

[0021] TDMA cellular communication systems may include, for example, GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) systems, GSM / EDGE (GSM / Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) systems, GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) systems, E-GPRS (EDGE GPRS) system, or a US-TDMA (United States Time Division Multiple Access) system. For ease of discussion, the preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described in terms of the GSM system, but the scope of the present invention is not limited to the GSM system, as will be apparent to those skilled in the art.

[0022] A TDMA cellular communication system according to the described example includes a core network (CN) 102, a base station controller (BSC) 104, an external network (EXT) 100 coupled to the core network 102, base transceiver stations (BTS#1, BTS# 2) 108, 110, and mobile s...

Abstract

A method, a computer program, an apparatus and a system for allocating radio resources are provided for a TDMA cellular telecommunications system which applies spatial diversity and cell-specific radio frequency bands. The system for allocating the radio resources includes a frequency allocating network element (204) for allocating radio frequency bands (306, 308) to at least two radio cells (214, 216) located within a reuse distance (238) from each other, at least one overlap region (310) being formed between the radio frequency bands (306, 308), the at least one overlap region (310) being reserved for a simultaneous use in the same transmission direction of the at least two radio cells (214, 216). The invention provides a frequency reuse capability for radio cells located within a reuse distance from each other.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method for allocating radio resources in a cellular communication system, a system for allocating radio resources in a cellular communication system, a device and a computer program for allocating radio resources in a cellular communication system. Background technique [0002] Frequency planning plays a key role when considering the performance of a TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) cellular communication system. Frequency planning primarily determines the radio frequency bands allocated to radio cells and aims to provide radio links with a minimum level of interference between these radio cells. Typically, the minimum interference level is obtained by allocating cell-specific radio frequency bands to radio cells, so that the radio frequency bands of adjacent cells are separated from each other. [0003] The performance of TDMA cellular communication systems can be greatly improved by utilizing spatial diversity,...
