Embodiment 2

[0165] Example 2. Glycemic response to test meal

[0166] A normal subject (M2) and an IGT subject (M4) both in a fasted state consumed the test meal of the present invention to provide a 50 g sugar load. Blood glucose was measured using Bayer Glucometer and Elite test strips at various time points before and after taking the test meal composition. Blood glucose measurements are given in millimoles per liter, such as figure 1 shown. The test meals were taken after an overnight fast and then measured at four different times.

Embodiment 3

[0167] Example 3. Comparison of Glycemic Response to Test Meal and to Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

[0168] Three groups of people (≥18 years old) were studied: 11 non-obese (Body Mass Index (“BMI”), BMI2 ) in normal subjects; five subjects with impaired glucose tolerance (“IGT”) within the past 12 months; and 13 subjects with non-insulin-dependent (Type II) diabetes treated with diet only body. The subjects were studied on two mornings following a 10-12 hour overnight fast over a two-week period.

[0169] Subjects consumed 300 ml of orange-flavored water (Glucodex  ) or 100 grams of dry sugar diagnostic test meal. The order of the experiments was randomized, with half of the subjects taking the oral glucose test meal first and the other half taking the test meal first.

[0170] You need to drink 250ml of water when taking the glucose solution and 450ml of water for the test meal. Both tests are completed within 10 minutes.

[0171] Venous and capillary blood samples were...

Abstract

A solid oral diagnostic test meal is provided that contains a polysaccharide, wherein the oral diagnostic test meal provides a medically controlled quantity of glycemic carbohydrate after being ingested by a vertebrate subject. In addition, methods and kits are provided for using the diagnostic test meal to monitor postprandial glucose to screen insulin levels and / or diagnose disorders of carbohydrate metabolism, to manage subjects being treated with antidiabetic agents, to self-diagnose diabetes and self-manage diet and antidiabetic drug dosage, and to calculate the glycemic index of a test food.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to products for the detection of metabolic diseases. In particular, the present invention relates to a dry, baked test meal for screening and early diagnosis of impaired glucose tolerance and type II diabetes. Background technique [0002] Disorders of glucose metabolism traditionally include diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance. Diabetes is a well-known cause of serious illness and death. According to estimates by the World Health Organization ("WHO"), there will be 300 million diabetics worldwide by 2025, and non-insulin dependent type 2 diabetes ("type 2 diabetes") is a major public health focus. In the United States, most patients entering dialysis programs are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, a leading cause of blindness and a leading cause of cardiac, peripheral and cerebrovascular disease. [0003] The Da Qing Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Diabetes Study and Bayer's AGSTOP-NIDDM Study, which...
