Abstract

A hybrid powertrain system (20) is provided that includes a first prime mover (22) having a rotational output, a second prime mover (26) having a rotational output, and a transmission having a main shaft (44) supporting at least two main shaft gears (64, 66, 70, 72, 74) thereon. The transmission includes a first independent countershaft (40) drivingly connected to the first prime mover (22) and including at least one ratio gear supported thereon that meshes with a respective main shaft gear (64, 66, 70). A second independent countershaft (42) is drivingly connected to the second prime mover (26) and includes at least one ratio gear supported thereon that meshes with a respective main shaft gear. The ratio gears on the first and second countershafts (40, 42) cooperate with the main shaft (44) gears to provide at least one gear ratio between the first and the second countershafts and the main shaft. A shift control mechanism (98) selectively engages and disengages the first and second countershafts for rotation with tha main shaft.
