Embodiment Construction

[0031] figure 1 A schematic diagram of the encoding method according to the invention is shown.

[0032] During a first step 1 of the complete encoding of an image performed in a conventional manner, a source sequence transmitted to the input of an encoding device implementing the method is processed. This encoding step provides at its output an encoded binary sequence consisting of video packets defined by synchronization flags which is passed on to the next step 2 . It also transmits to this step 2 and step 4 locally coded images. From the encoded data, during encoding step 1, the image is reconstructed in a known manner. For encoding modes that use temporal prediction, such as inter-image, it is used as a reference image during encoding.

[0033] The effect of step 2 is to remove video packets from the data stream and calculate the corresponding images. The picture, referred to as a degraded locally decoded picture, is obtained from a locally decoded picture from which ...

Abstract

A method and device for compressing video data encoded by video packets, characterized in that said method comprises: step (2) of reducing a binary sequence, said step consists in: deleting one or more video packets from said binary sequence , in order to provide a reduced binary sequence; step (3) of the error concealment algorithm is implemented on the reduced binary sequence, thereby computing a corrected degraded locally decoded image, said corrected degraded locally decoded image is based on the reduced binary sequence and the image reconstructed by the masking algorithm; a confirmation step (4) for confirming or not confirming the reduction of the binary sequence as a function of the quality of the corrected degraded locally decoded image; depending on the presence or absence of confirmation, the selection of the reduced binary sequence or Step (2) of the binary sequence.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method and a device for compressing video data encoded by video packets. The invention is in the technical field of video compression implementations that are robust to errors and based on the use of video packets. In particular, its application can be designed within the context of H.263, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 integrating such tools. Background technique [0002] Video grouping consists in generating binary data that are spatially independent of each other during the encoding of each video picture. The binary sequence of images consists of multiple packets separated from each other by resync flags. Each packet may be marked by a sync flag preceding it. It can be decoded without knowing the surrounding packet's data. This tool ensures better robustness to decoding in case of packet loss since packet loss does not cause spatial propagation of errors. [0003] The cost of compressing video data usually depends on the d...
