Embodiment Construction

[0016] figure 1 An example of a measuring device showing the mode field diameter, which is an amount affecting the splicing loss of a polarization-plane-stabilized optical fiber, is shown.

[0017] exist figure 1 Among them, reference numeral 1 denotes a laser light source, and reference numeral 2 denotes a polarization-plane-stabilized optical fiber, such as a PANDA-type optical fiber, as the measured optical fiber. Reference numeral 3 denotes a beam magnifying device formed by a lens group.

[0018] LP emitted from laser light source 1 01 The mode is injected into one end of the polarization-plane-stabilized fiber 2 and then propagates, and it exits from the other end of the polarization-plane-stabilized fiber 2 and enters the beam amplifying device 3 . In this beam amplifying device 3 , the beam at the output end of the polarization-plane-preserving optical fiber 2 is amplified, and the amplified beam is detected by an ultraviolet camera, and its two-dimensional light ...

Abstract

To provide a polarization holding type optical fiber whose connection loss is made smaller by making the non-circular amount of a mode filed diameter smaller. SOLUTION: The non-circular rate of the mode field diameter of the plane-of- polarization preservation type optical fiber in a use wavelength region is set to be <= about 3.2%. When the plane-of-polarization preservation type optical fibers whose non-circular rate of the mode field diameter is small are connected each other, the connection loss is restrained to be about 0.13 dB at the most.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a polarization-plane-stabilized optical fiber used in optical communications, optical sensors, etc., in particular to a polarization-plane-stabilized optical fiber with good connection characteristics. Background technique [0002] In recent years, in the fields of optical communication and optical sensors, polarization-plane-stabilized optical fiber technology for propagating light while preserving two independent polarization states has been widely used. [0003] In this polarization-plane-stabilized fiber, the transverse and longitudinal refractive indices are different, and the difference between the transverse and longitudinal propagation constants increases, and the mode coupling between the two polarized lights decreases. [0004] Several types of this polarization-plane-stabilized fiber are being developed, including a PANDA-type fiber which is a polarization-plane-stabilized fiber with low loss and excellent pr...
