Problems solved by technology

Therefore, it will be difficult for anyone to use this mask comfortably for a long time
In addition, CO 2 and moisture build up inside the mask, which tends to make things worse
Also, the more efficient the filter media is, the more flow resistance it will exert, making these masks even more uncomfortable for long-term use

[0020] According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), PAPR "is not recommended for use in the operating room (OR) due to the lack of scientific evidence to support the safe use of this type of device and the possible impact on the sterile field ( contamination of the unfiltered air exhaled by the wearer)". https: / / www.cdc.gov / niosh / nppt1 / topics / respirators / disp_part / respsource3healthcare.html.

[0021] In some applications where a tight-fitting PAPR may be useful, there is a need to ensure that bacteria, viruses, DNA material or other foreign particles (contaminants) that may be present in the air exhaled by the user do not reach the environment outside the mask. For example, in acute care, it is critical that any infectious agent aerosolized from a healthcare worker's mouth, nose, or lungs does not contaminate sterile fields or put immunocompromised patients at risk, where the infectious agent could cause Life-threatening complications or inf...

Abstract

An electric air purifying respirator includes an inlet air filter; a flow generator configured to cause air from an ambient environment to flow through the inlet air filter and elevate pressure of the air to above ambient conditions; a mask in fluid communication with the flow generator and configured to fit tightly against a user's face or neck for delivery of the air to the user at the elevated pressure; and a one-way outlet valve configured to allow air exhaled by the user to be vented to the ambient environment. An outlet filter may be included to filter the air flowing through the one-way valve, and the outlet filter may be retrofit. The outlet filter may be preferred when filtration of both inlet and outlet air is desirable.

Description

[0001] priority application [0002] This application claims priority to parent US application 62 / 802106, filed February 6, 2019, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] For the general public, protection against pollution and disease in their daily lives is largely dependent on dust masks and surgical masks. However, due to leakage around the mask, these masks provide only basic protection, even when the filter material used to manufacture such masks is often labeled as suitable for high-efficiency filtration. Due to the additional resistance exerted by the filter media, users must breathe harder than they would normally without a mask. Therefore, it is difficult for anyone to use this mask comfortably for a long time. In addition, CO 2 And moisture builds up inside the mask, which tends to make things worse. Additionally, the more efficient the filter media is, the more flow resistance it will exert, making these m...
