Embodiment Construction

[0037] The present invention relates to bone cutting and tissue removal devices and related methods of use. Several variations of the invention will now be described to provide a general understanding of the principles of form, function, and methods of use of the devices disclosed herein. In general, the present disclosure provides variations of arthroscopic tools suitable for cutting bone, soft tissue, meniscal tissue, and RF ablation and coagulation. Arthroscopic tools are typically disposable and configured for removably coupling to a non-disposable handpiece carrying a motor drive assembly. This description of the general principles of the invention is not meant to limit the inventive concept in the appended claims.

[0038] exist figure 1 In one variation shown in , the arthroscopic system 100 of the present invention provides a handpiece 104 with a motor drive 105 and a disposable planer assembly or probe 110 with a proximal hub 120, the disposable planer assembly Or...

Abstract

A bipolar radiofrequency (RF) device for treating tissue in the presence of an electrically conductive fluid includes a headpiece and a probe. The handpiece has a motor drive, a receiving channel, and an active electrical contact on an inner wall of the receiving channel. A return electrical contact is disposed proximally of the active electrical contact on the inner wall of the receiving channel. The probe includes a proximal hub and an elongated shaft extending distally about a longitudinal axis from the proximal hub, and the hub may be inserted into and removed from the receiving channel of the handpiece. A working end of the probe is located at a distal end of the elongated shaft, and the working end includes an active electrode and a return electrode. The return electrical contact is located proximally of an active electrical contact on an outer surface of the hub. In this way, the return electrical contacts in the receiving channel and on the outer surface of the hub, respectively, and the achieve electrical contacts in the receiving channel and on the outer surface of the hub, respectively, engage each other when the hub is inserted into the receiving channel of the handpiece.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Patent Application No. 16 / 433,806 (Attorney Docket No. 41879-742.201), filed June 6, 2019, which claims provisional application 62 / 682,787 (Attorney Docket No. 41879-742.101), the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0003] 1. Field of invention . The present invention relates generally to devices and methods for endoscopic and other surgical procedures, and more particularly to devices and methods for cutting and removing bone and soft tissue. [0004] Various devices and methods exist for endoscopic cutting and removal of bone including, for example, subacromial decompression, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction involving notchplasty, and arthroscopic resection of the acromioclavicular joint. Currently, during such procedures, surgeons use arthroscopic planers and drills with rotating cutting surfaces to remove hard t...
