However, this treatment may often be underutilized due to the failure to identify in time if a patient is experiencing or has recently experienced a stroke
This has a particular risk for milder strokes that make the patient relatively mobile after a cursory assessment

Embodiment Construction

[0071] It can be difficult to determine whether a patient has had a stroke. Current diagnostic techniques often involve evaluating patients for visible symptoms, such as numbness or numbness of the face, arms, or legs and difficulty walking, speaking, or understanding. However, these techniques can lead to undiagnosed strokes, especially milder strokes that leave patients relatively active after a cursory assessment. Even for relatively mild strokes, it is important to treat the patient as soon as possible, because the treatment effect of stroke patients is very time-dependent. Therefore, improved methods for detecting stroke are needed.

[0072] Embodiments of the present technology enable detection of stroke by acquiring and analyzing sensor data of a patient under passive and / or active conditions, as described in more detail below. For example, an electroencephalogram (EEG) array may be used to sense and record the electrical activity of a patient's brain. The sensed EEG...

Abstract

A system for detecting stroke includes a sensor device configured to obtain physiological data, such as brain activity data, from a patient. A computing device communicatively coupled to the sensor device is configured to receive the physiological data and compare the physiological data to reference data. The reference data may be patient data from the cerebral hemisphere opposite the hemisphere being interrogated, or the reference data may be non-patient data from a population of stroke and normal patients. Based on the comparison of the physiological data with the reference data, the system indicates whether the patient has suffered a stroke.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to US Patent Application Serial No. 62 / 516,596, filed June 7, 2017, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present technology relates to medical devices, and more particularly to systems and methods for detecting stroke. Background technique [0004] Stroke is a serious medical condition that can lead to permanent neurological damage, complications and death. A stroke can be characterized as a rapidly progressive loss of brain function due to a disorder of the blood vessels supplying blood to the brain. Loss of brain function may be the result of ischemia (insufficient blood supply) caused by thrombosis or embolism. During a stroke, the blood supply to an area of the brain may decrease, which may cause the brain tissue in that area to function abnormally. [0005] There are various methods for treating patients sufferi...
