Abstract

The invention discloses application of ANGPTL5 gene as a bovine backfat thickness molecular marker and a detection method. After bovine genome-wide DNA is subjected to PCR (polymerase chain reaction) amplification, SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) present in a PCR product sequence are detected through direct sequencing; it is discovered that four SNPs on an intron 1 and an intron 2 in the ANGPTL5 gene sequence are associated with bovine backfat thickness traits. A genetic marker in tight relation with bovine backfat thickness traits is screened and detected effectively, quickly and simply at DNA level; the genetic marker is applicable to molecular breeding of beef cattle; in initial stage of cattle breeding, the functional SNPs are used as markers for molecular breeding and assisted selection for modifying backfat thickness traits of Chinese Simmental cattle; bovine backfat thickness can be assessed and predicted quickly; therefore, with the cost reduced, beef quality is further improved, breeding speed of fine varieties is increased, and population quality is improved.
