The method comprises the steps: obtaining a fault querying request from a terminal, wherein the fault querying request comprises a fault distance fiber length between a fault point and a relay machine room; comparing the fault distance fiber length in the fault querying request with an accumulated fiber length between locating points in fault locating data and the relay machine room, and determining target locatingpoints, wherein the target locating points are locating points adjacent to the fault point, and the locating points comprise the relay machine room and a markstone point; and feeding back the position information of the target locating points. The method provided by the invention can achieve the querying in the fault locating data according to the fault querying request, achieves the determiningof the machine room or markstone point adjacent to the fault point, achieves the feeding back of the position of the machine room or markstone point to an optical cable maintainer, so that the opticalcable maintainer goes to a site for detection and maintenance according to the obtained position information, and improves the fault locating efficiency.
