Problems solved by technology

Additionally, in situations where instruments are disposable or interchangeable with handpieces, ultrasound and electrosurgical generators are limited in their ability to identify the specific instrument configuration being used and optimize control and diagnostic procedures accordingly
Furthermore, capacitive coupling between the non-isolated circuits of the generator and the patient-isolated circuits, especially where higher voltages and frequencies are used, can result in patient exposure to unacceptable levels of leakage current

Abstract

A control circuit (1602) of a surgical device (1600) is disclosed. The control circuit includes a first circuit portion coupled to at least one switch operable between an open state and a closed state. The first circuit portion communicates with a surgical generator (102) over a conductor pair (112) to receive a control signal to determine a state of the at least one switch.
