Embodiment Construction

[0044] Apparatuses, systems and / or methods for implementing embodiments of the various features of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings. The drawings and corresponding descriptions are provided to illustrate certain embodiments of the invention and not to limit the scope of the invention. Throughout the figures, reference numerals have been reused to indicate consistency between referenced components.

[0045] Figure 2A An implantable gastric banding system 205 for the treatment of obesity is illustrated. In the illustrated embodiment, a tube 225 (or catheter) and access port 230 are used in the implantable gastric banding system 205, including a gastric band 210 configured to encircle a portion of the stomach 220 of the patient 200 Rings are formed to form openings. The gastric band 210 is preferably wrapped around the cardia or esophagus junction of the stomach 220 to restrict the flow of food from the upper portion of th...

Abstract

Generally described herein are apparatus, systems and methods related to gastric bands which provide increased compliance to reduce food obstructions and / or reduces over restriction causing symptoms such as gastric enlargement and pouch dilatation. In one embodiment, a dual ringed reservoir band or inflatable portion is provided. In one embodiment, an additional ring or a middle pouch may be added to the dual ringed reservoir band. The addition of an additional ring or middle pouch may further increase band compliance resulting in even fewer food obstructions. In another embodiment, one or more funnels can also be implemented into a gastric banding system to induce satiety and / or for guiding a bolus through the gastric band.

Description

[0001] cross reference [0002] This application claims the benefit of US Patent Application Serial No. 13 / 356,459 filed January 23, 2012, the entire disclosure of which is incorporated herein by said specific reference. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to medical systems, devices and uses thereof for the treatment of obesity and / or obesity-related diseases. More specifically, the present invention relates to gastric bands for reducing obstructions caused by food boluses in the esophagogastric junction. Background technique [0004] Gastric band devices have provided an effective and substantially less invasive alternative to gastric bypass surgery and other traditional surgical methods of weight loss. Although invasive weight loss procedures, such as gastric bypass surgery, have had positive outcomes, it has been recognized that laparoscopically placed gastric bands (eg, (Allergan, Inc., Irvine, CA) gastric band or LAP-BAND (Allergan, In...
