Problems solved by technology

Regular photographic film is not suitable as the gel cannot withstand high temperatures and high light intensity without loss of performance
[0010] Known printing techniques generally suffer from two important drawbacks, namely the limited maximum optical density of current dyes and the limited tolerance of current dyes to the high light intensities involved
Also, one cannot simply print directly on glass

Abstract

The present invention relates in part to a print method for an arbitrary grey scale image on a transparent substrate such as glass. The present invention makes use of a printer that can print in continuous grey tones. The printed material should be transparent and resistant to the light which passes through it in a projection system. The present invention also provides a continuous grey scale filter made by a printing techniques using liquid inks or toners. Such a continuous grey scale filter can be used for blending multiple images in a multichannel projector system. The present invention also provides a multichannel projector system using the continuous grey scale filter.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to projection systems and methods for projecting multiple images and continuous tone filters for use in multi-channel projection systems. Background technique [0002] One drawback of light valve projectors is a certain amount of light leakage in the black state, ie a fully black image is not black but a very dark gray, indicating a limitation in contrast. This is especially problematic in display systems utilizing at least two projectors to compose the image. figure 1 An example is given in . exist figure 1 In , projector (proj) 1 on the left is shown rear projecting the first image onto half of the display screen. The other half of the image is projected by the projector on the right. [0003] The first is to stitch the two images into a single image, but due to projector misalignment and projection lens errors, this will always result in annoying dark or light seams in the image, such as figure 2 That is illustrat...
