Embodiment Construction

[0037] refer to figure 2 , schematically shows an example of a wireless device 10 communicating with a wireless network. The wireless device 10 contains the necessary radio module 11, processor(s) and memory / memory(s) 12, antenna 13, etc. to enable wireless communication with the network. The wireless device 10 in use communicates with a wireless cellular network with coverage provided by the radio pole 4 .

[0038] In a specific example of the invention, the wireless device 10 is an in-vehicle device that provides in-vehicle emergency call services. A specific example is the so-called eCall service, in which case the wireless device 10 is referred to as an eCall device 10, as figure 1 Schematically shown in and as generally discussed above may be installed in a vehicle 1 such as a road vehicle. figure 2 Also schematically shown is a PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) 5 , with which the eCall device 10 contacts over a wireless network in the event of an emergency, such...

Abstract

The application concerns the eCall service for setting up emergency calls as defined by 3GPP (cf. 3GPP TS 24.008). A wireless eCall device (10) being in an eCall inactive service state, transmits a request message for receipt by a wireless network (4) to at least one of request attachment of the wireless eCall device (10) to the wireless network (4) and request location updating for the wireless eCall device (10) from the wireless network (4). The wireless eCall device (10) subsequently attempts an emergency call to the wireless network (4) regardless of whether or not the wireless eCall device (10) receives a response to the request. In this way, the wireless eCall device (10) can make the emergency call promptly and without significant delay. Moreover, PSAP call back is possible, in case the attachment or location update procedure completes successfully.
