Embodiment Construction

[0027] The foregoing Summary, as well as the following Embodiments, are better understood when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. In order to illustrate the embodiments, example configurations of the embodiments are shown in the drawings; however, the embodiments are not limited to the specific methods and instrumentalities disclosed.

[0028] Techniques for supporting eCall are described herein. An eCall is an emergency call wherein: (i) the emergency call is initiated automatically by the wireless terminal or manually by the user due to a triggering event (e.g., a vehicle involved in an accident); and (ii) ) said emergency call includes additional data automatically sent by the terminal to a receiving entity (eg, a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)). The additional data may include vehicle identity, vehicle location, triggering events, etc., and may be sent in-band along the voice path, or out-of-band via separate signaling or data / text transfers . Abstract

An eCall is an emergency call in which: (i) the emergency call may be initiated automatically by the wireless terminal or manually by the user due to a triggering event (e.g., the vehicle being involved in an accident); and (ii ) said emergency call includes additional data automatically sent by the terminal to a receiving entity (eg, a Public Safety Answering Point PSAP). Depending on the implementation, high priority is given to registering the in-vehicle system IVS in eCall-only mode with the mobile network using emergency setup signaling (eg emergency setup message) or location update messages. Immediately after an eCall emergency is triggered at the IVS, the IVS can get a higher priority from the mobile network. When requesting connection to a mobile network, the IVS can use one or more fields of the location update message to register with the network with higher priority.
