Embodiment Construction
[0007] Windshields are composed of various oxides that melt when heated and react to form glass. This contains silica (SiO from sand 2 ), sodium oxide (derived from soda ash or Na 2 CO 3 Na 2 O), calcium oxide (from limestone or CaCO 3 CaO), potassium oxide (K derived from potassium carbonate 2 O), magnesia (MgO) and alumina (Al from feldspar 2 o 3 ). The raw materials listed above are carefully weighed in appropriate amounts and mixed with a small amount of water to prevent segregation of ingredients. Cullet (shattered waste glass) can also be used as a raw material. After the ingredients are prepared, they are sent to larger tanks for melting using the float process.
[0008] Glass for windshields is produced by the float glass process. In this method, raw materials are heated to a molten state and introduced into a molten tin bath. In the float chamber, the glass is not immersed in the tin, but floats on the tin and passes through the tin bath as if on a conveyor...
