Embodiment Construction

[0070] figure 1An embodiment of a treatment device 1 according to the invention is shown. The treatment device 1 comprises a probe head 2 with a central propagation axis 8 . The probe head 2 includes a therapy transducer 3 and an imaging transducer 4 , both incorporated within the probe head 2 . The diaphragm 5 wraps around the probe head 2 . The space between the diaphragm 5 and the probe head 2 can contain a cooling and / or coupling liquid. The amount of cooling and / or coupling liquid can be used to adjust the distance between the therapy transducer 3 and the patient's tissue or skin 27 to be treated. Adjustment of this distance enables movement of the focal point 7 along the central propagation axis 8 . The focal point 7 is located in the target area 6, which is typically a cancer cell or a tumor. In this embodiment, the axis of rotation 29 is identical to the central propagation axis 8 of the probe head 2 . In order to avoid shifting of the focal point 7 during rotati...

Abstract

The invention concerns a device for treatment of an organ or tissue of a living being. The device comprises at least one treatment transducer for emission of ultrasound waves, preferably high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) waves, focusable on a focal point within or on the surface of said organ or tissue, as well as means for rotating said treatment transducer around an axis which intersects said focal point. The device further comprises synchronization means for synchronizing the rotation of the treatment transducer with at least the emission of ultra- sound waves from said treatment transducer and / or an additional imaging transducer.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a device according to claim 1 for the treatment of organs or tissues of living beings using ultrasound, preferably using High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) waves. Background technique [0002] Treatment with ultrasound, particularly high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), is well known in the art. It is used in particular in the treatment of tumors of the thyroid, breast, uterus and prostate. The tumor is thus destroyed by thermal energy. The required heat is generated by focusing high-intensity ultrasound waves at a focal point. As the sound waves travel through tissue, a portion of the sound waves is absorbed and converted into heat. At the focal point, due to the significant concentration of energy, the temperature within the tissue rises to 65° to 85°C, destroying the diseased tissue through coagulation necrosis. A great advantage of treatment with HIFU is that it is a non-invasive treatment method, thus...
