The authentication device comprises a card check host, a video camera, a card reader, a uniqueness card check device, a sound and light alarm device and a display screen. The method comprises the following steps of: 1) reading card number information of an identification card, acquiring the facial feature information of the staff entering the mine well, and displaying the information; 2) judging whether the staff entering the mine well takes multiple identification cards in a uniqueness detection device; 3) comparing whether the facial feature information is consistent; and 4) controlling a gateway to open, and allowing the staff entering the mine well to enter the well through the gateway. The method and the device have the following advantages that 1, whether one staff takes multiple cards can be automatically judged; 2, whether the staff entering the well corresponds to the identification card taken by such staff can be automatically judged; 3, whether the identification card is damaged or has low power can be effectively judged when the identification card passes through the card reader, and the time when the staff getting out or entering the well is recorded; and 4, by connecting a positioning database, the position information of the identification card in the well can be inquired, thereby facilitating mine well management.
