Embodiment Construction

[0029] The exemplary embodiment relates to an electromechanical steering system 1 of a motor vehicle. The steering mechanism 1 includes a steering gear housing 2 and a steering tie rod 3 extending through the steering gear housing 2 . The steering pinion acts on the tie rod 3 in order to transmit the steering command exerted by the driver on the steering wheel 4 to the wheels 5 . Furthermore, the steering has an electric motor 6 for generating the steering torque. As shown in the figure, the electric motor 6 may be arranged axially parallel to the tie rod 3 . However, it is also possible to arrange the electric motor 6 coaxially with the steering rod 3 or at another point, for example on the steering column 7 which mechanically connects the steering wheel 4 to the steering pinion. In a drive-by-wire system, the steering column 7 is replaced by an electrical signal path.

[0030]In the exemplary embodiment shown, the drive torque of the electric motor 6 acts on the steering ...

Abstract

The invention relates to an electrically lockable vehicle steering system comprising an electric motor (6) for generating a steering torque, a steering control unit (11), and a locking device (20) which can be electrically actuated for locking the steering system. The steering control unit (11) is disposed in a housing (13), which is secured to the electric motor (6). The electrically actuatable locking device (20) comprises an actuator (21), which is disposed in the housing (13) of the steering control unit (11). This creates a structural arrangement of an electrically lockable vehicle steering system which offers advantages in many respects. Methods are also provided for activating and deactivating the steering locking system.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an electric lockable automobile steering mechanism, which comprises an electric motor for generating steering torque, a steering control device and an electrically operated locking device for locking the steering mechanism. Background technique [0002] Due to legal regulations, cars in EU countries must be equipped with safety devices to prevent unauthorized use. The steering mechanism must be able to withstand a certain torque in both directions about the axis of the steering shaft under static conditions in the state of being operated sharply, without being damaged without endangering safety, or the steering mechanism must be equipped to achieve compliance or A sliding mechanism whereby the system is subjected to a certain torque either continuously or intermittently. Here, the torque in the first case must be significantly greater than the torque in the second case. [0003] An electrically lockable vehicle steering syste...
