Embodiment Construction

[0072] figure 1 A device, indicated generally by the reference numeral 10 , is shown which is suitable for carrying out the method according to the invention for monitoring the tires of a motor vehicle 12 .

[0073] exist figure 1 In this example, the motor vehicle 12 is an automobile. The invention may also be implemented on any type of motor vehicle provided with tyres, such as heavy goods vehicles.

[0074] Each car 12 includes tires 14 whose condition must be monitored. The condition of the tires characterizes, for example, tire wear or tire pressure.

[0075] For this purpose, each tire 14 is provided with an acoustic condition indicator 16 , that is to say the indicator 16 is capable of emitting an acoustic footprint noise which varies according to the condition of the tire, in particular the wear of the tire.

[0076] The vehicle 12 also includes a system 18 within its passenger compartment for detecting an acoustic signal including all of the acoustic footprint noi...

Abstract

The tire (14) includes a tread shaped such that, beyond a predetermined radial wear threshold, the tread includes an assembly of at least one wear indicator including a so-called "sound" cavity (120A, 120B, 121) arranged in a circumferential groove of the tread. During the monitoring process, an acoustic signal above a predetermined threshold is detected (100) by an acoustic sensor (20) onboard the vehicle (12), said signal being capable of including an acoustic fingerprint noise produced by the assembly of at least one wear indicator (120A, 120B, 121) while the tire (14) runs on the ground, and information relating to the acoustic signal is transmitted (308) to a remote server (30) that is not onboard the vehicle (12).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of motor vehicle tires and monitoring the condition of motor vehicle tires. [0002] For example, the invention relates to monitoring the wear or pressure state of tires. Background technique [0003] For obvious safety reasons, the correct inflation of the tires is very important in order that the tires are not overloaded and that they do not wear excessively. This is because of the significant wear of the tire tread, the risk of being overloaded or under-inflated causing punctures, blowouts, wet road skids, loss of durability, overheating and other such problems. [0004] To aid in the monitoring of tire conditions, condition indicators are often provided. [0005] An example of a condition indicator for monitoring wear is a rib provided at the bottom of a groove in the tire tread, the height of which corresponds to the minimum depth of the groove of the tire required for correct and safe operation of the ...
