Abstract

The invention discloses a method for redirecting a multimedia content on demand request in an internet protocol television (IPTV) system. The IPTV system adopts a tree structure with a plurality of nodes, wherein each node is provided with a plurality of access points (APs) and a plurality of streaming media servers; each AP is relevant to multimedia content types; and each multimedia content type corresponds to different content direction strategies. The method comprises the following steps: receiving a multimedia content on demand request from a user at one AP; according to the AP number, determining the multimedia content type related to the multimedia content on demand request; and according to the content direction strategy corresponding to the determined multimedia content type, redirecting the multimedia content on demand request to a proper streaming media server. In addition, the invention also discloses corresponding redirection equipment for redirecting the multimedia content on demand request.
