Embodiment Construction

[0037] figure 1 A typical parking maneuver 10 for parallel parking in a neighborhood is shown. Several parallel parked vehicles 3 , 4 and 5 are located on the road 1 near the boundary 9 of the road. The distance between the vehicles 3 and 4 is large enough for another vehicle to be parked there, thus forming a so-called parking space. The various possible places to park a vehicle are grouped under the generic term "parking space", since not only parking spaces but also other options such as parking spaces or converted, partially converted or simply marked parking spaces are also available for parking vehicles. In this context, the term "parking space" is limited to parking options for a single vehicle.

[0038] exist figure 1 In the parallel parking shown, the vehicle 2 travels along the path shown by the dashed line 6, passing the vehicle 3 adjacent to the rear of the parking space, until reaching the position of the vehicle 4 adjacent to the front of the parking space. W...

Abstract

The invention relates to a device (20) and a method for controlling the steering of a vehicle (2) during a parking maneuver. To this end first the parking spot (15) selected for parking the vehicle (2) is surveyed. Based on said survey, an orientation field is prepared, which defines a target orientation for a plurality of positioning points inside the selected parking spot (15) and in the surroundings of the parking spot, the vehicle being guided along these points from any arbitrary point inside the orientation field to the target point of the parking maneuver. The control of the vehicle (2) occurs by comparing the respective current orientation thereof to the target orientation specified for the respective position in the orientation field and by an appropriate adjustment of the steering angle by the vehicle orientation to said target orientation.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a driving assistance system for motor vehicles, in particular to a semi-automatic parking assistance device for multi-lane vehicles. Background technique [0002] Park Assist assists the driver of the vehicle in parking. In the past, essentially passive parking assistance systems in the form of motor vehicles or oriented objects on parking spaces dominated, but in recent years active parking assistance systems have received particular attention. Typically, ultrasonic sensors are mounted on the rear bumper of the vehicle, sometimes also on the front bumper, to measure the distance between the vehicle and obstacles based on the determination of the transit time of the ultrasonic waves emitted by the sensor and reflected by these obstacles. If the measured distance is less than a predetermined value, an alarm signal is usually issued, the repetition frequency of which gradually increases as the distance further decreases. These ...
