[0031] Described here is the process used by devices to communicate over a wireless network using frequency hopping. Figure 1 illustrates an exemplary wireless network 10 over which this process may be performed. Depending on the process, devices on or entering the network may communicate on one or more channels. To allow this communication, frequency hopping data is exchanged between devices as they enter the network. As explained below, frequency hopping data describes how each device communicates using frequency hopping, enabling the devices to schedule communications for the appropriate frequency, time of day, and duration. Frequency hopping as used here increases the capacity of the network because it allows network traffic to overlap without significantly increasing congestion and packet loss.
