An SATA interface testing device comprises a latch register, an indicating device, a signal converter and at least an SATA interface. The indicating device is connected with the latch register; the latch register is connected with the signal converter; the signal converter is connected with the SATA interface; the signal converter receives the serial data from a board to be tested through the SATA interface and then converts the serial data into the parallel data for the latch register to implement the data read-in check; after the check, the data is converted into the serial signal through the signal converter and the serial signal is output through the SATA interface to the SATA to be tested for data read-out check through the inner procedure of the board to be tested; the indicating device indicates whether or not the SATA interface on the board to be tested is good according to the check result. The invention also discloses an SATA interface testing method. The device and the method need no hard disc when testing the function of the SATA interface of the mainboard, thus not affecting the testing result due to the vibration of the hard disc and reducing the testing cost.
