Embodiment Construction

[0044] In the following examples, maximum hatch percentages were obtained with the following products containing the following concentrations of not more than one different compound containing at least one -(OH)C=C(OH)- structure:

[0045] Pyrocatechol: 14ppm in incubation medium

[0046] Pyrogallic acid: 14ppm in incubation medium

[0047] Quercetin: 30ppm in incubation medium

[0048] Methylcatechol: 15ppm in incubation medium

[0049] Propyl gallate: 40ppm in incubation medium

[0050] The cysts intended for use in the method according to the invention are cysts of one or more Artemia species. When they are placed on the market, they are usually contained in containers, especially cans. However, it is also possible to package them in other containers such as bags, jars, bottles and the like. The container may contain different amounts of cysts, ie the amount of cysts varies eg between 0.01 and 50 kg, more particularly between 0.1 and 10 kg. According to the invention,...

Abstract

A method to hatch Artemia nauplii starting from an amount of Artemia cysts, including diapauzing cysts, by incubating the cysts in a hatching medium under conditions allowing at least a portion of the cysts to hatch and to release free swimming nauplii within a predetermined incubation period, in which method the cysts are brought in contact with a compound comprising at least one -(OH)C=C(OH)- structure, to break diapause in at least a number of said diapauzing cysts in order to enable them to produce free swimming nauplii within said predetermined incubation period thereby increasing the hatching percentage of the incubated cysts from X % of the total number of full cysts when the cysts are not brought in contact with said compound, to a hatching percentage higher than X % when they arebrought in contact with said compound.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the removal of a quantity of one or more Artemia species by incubating cysts in an incubation medium for a predetermined incubation period under conditions that allow at least a portion of the cysts to hatch and release free-swimming nauplii. A process for hatching Artemia nauplii starting from cysts (including diapause cysts) of a species, in which the cysts are contacted with a compound to destroy at least a certain number of said diapause cysts diapause in order to enable them to produce free-swimming nauplii during said predetermined incubation period, thereby reducing the hatching percentage of hatched cysts from that of all sporozoites when said cysts were not exposed to said compound X% of the total number of vesicles increased to a percent hatch greater than X% when they were exposed to the compound. Background technique [0002] Artemia nauplii are commonly used as live food organisms in aquaculture, more part...
