Abstract

The invention discloses a method and system for realizing the Ethernet link clustering and protective switching. Multiple links are set as one or multiple link cluster groups and every link clustering group includes at least two links. One MAC address is set for every link clustering group as the source MAC address which is used by all links to send the packets in the link clustering group. The PPPoE session is established in the clustering link and the corresponding output link of the PPPoE session is selected from the link clustering group according to certain rule. After the PPPoE session is established in the clustering link, the related information of the PPPoE session is synchronized to all service boards of the link clustering group. If one link fails in the PPPoE session, the failed link will be deleted from the link clustering group and new output link of the PPPoE session will be generated. If the service board of the new output link is not in the service board of the old service board, the service of the new output link will generate the new PPPoE session entity according to the synchronization information of the PPPoE session.
