Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate device with a simple structure which can positively detect an object to be detected in a passage so as to increase the satisfaction of an operator of the gate device. SOLUTION: The gate device is provided with a reflection type detection means for detecting whether the object to be detected passes through the passage by emitting light toward the passage and receiving the reflected light of the emitted light. The reflection type detection means uses a reflecting member which changes the direction of the reflected light by reflecting the reflected light coming from the outside of a box body, passing through a light entrance port, and entering the box body; and a light receiving element which receives the reflected light of which direction is changed by the reflecting member. The reflecting member and light receiving element are placed so that the optical path length from the light entrance port to the point at which the light receiving element receives the light reflected by the reflecting member is longer than the length of a dead zone of the reflection type detection means occurring in the vicinity of the light receiving element.
