Benefits of technology

[0007]Therefore, it is an aspect of the present disclosure to provide a washing machine and a control method thereof in which an amount of water consumed during a rinsing cycle is greatly reduced so as to achieve water-saving washing.

Problems solved by technology

Consumers in a region, where a sufficient amount of water is available, desire rapid and strong washing regardless of an amount of water consumed, but consumers in a region where an amount of supplied water is insufficient, desire washing with a small amount of water rather than washing speed or efficiency.

Embodiment Construction

[0062]Reference will now be made in detail to the embodiments of the present disclosure, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to like elements throughout.

[0063]FIG. 1 is a longitudinal-sectional view of a washing machine in accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 1, the washing machine in accordance with this embodiment includes a tub 11 installed within a main body 10 to contain water (wash water or rinse water), a spin basket 12 rotatably installed in the tub 11 to contain laundry W, and a pulsator 13 rotatably installed in the spin basket 12 and rotated in regular and reverse directions to generate a water current. The washing machine of FIG. 1 is a vertical type washing machine in which the tub 11 and the spin basket 12 are rotated around an almost vertical axis; In general, the vertical type washing machine is controlled such that an amount of laundry is determined by sensing a w...

Abstract

A washing machine operates in stand by for a predetermined time, under the condition that rinse water is not drained during first rinsing out of a plurality of rinsings constituting a rinsing cycle of the washing machine, so as to allow contaminants in the rinse water to settle, performs partial drainage to drain a part of the rinse water is performed, when the predetermined time has elapsed, and performs second rinsing by supplying an amount of water equal to that of the drained rinse water, when the partial drainage has been completed.

Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS[0001]This application claims the benefit of Korean Patent Application No. 2010-0069265, filed on Jul. 17, 2010 in the Korean Intellectual Property Office, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference.BACKGROUND[0002]1. Field[0003]Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a washing machine.[0004]2. Description of the Related Art[0005]In general, washing machines are apparatuses which remove contaminants from laundry through washing, rinsing, and spin-drying cycles according to a predetermined algorithm, and are divided into a vertical type washing machine (an automatic washing machine) and a drum washing machine. The vertical type washing machine performs washing using rotation of rotating blades and an outer or inner tub (washing tub / spin-drying tub) around a vertical axis. On the other hand, the drum washing machine performs washing using rotation of a drum around a horizontal axis.[0006]These washing machines consume wat...
