Problems solved by technology

[0010] However, in the method using CRC, according to the CRC method, the fast code will be encoded one more time, which will cause data rate loss, and the CRC result will be incorrect
[0011] In addition, methods using LLR have a difficulty in determining an appropriate threshold for stopping iterations, i.e., even if the LLR condition is appropriate, errors may still occur

Embodiment Construction

[0024] Reference will now be made in detail to present embodiments of the present invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like numerals refer to like parts.

[0025] The decoding device according to the present invention decodes signals encoded by the RS encoder and the turbo encoder. In other words, the signal transmitter has an RS encoder and a turbo encoder, and accordingly, a signal to be transmitted is encoded into a block code by the RS encoder, and then, encoded again by the turbo encoder.

[0026] figure 2 is a block diagram of a decoding device according to an embodiment of the present invention. The decoding device includes: an input buffer memory 110 , a fast decoder 120 , an RS decoder 150 , an output buffer memory 170 , a controller 140 , and a memory 180 .

[0027] The input buffer memory 110 temporarily stores an input signal (input data), and supplies the stored signal to the flash decoder 120 . The output buffer m...

Abstract

A decoding device having a turbo decoder and an RS decoder concatenated serially and a method of decoding performed by the same. A turbo decoder decodes received data of a channel and an RS decoder RS decodes the turbo decoded data. A controller controls the turbo decoder to iteratively turbo-decode the data according to a number of iterations determined by a stored iteration number and to cease the turbo decoding if an error correction completion signal is received from the RS decoder. The controller decreases the iteration number for a next frame of the data if the completion signal is received within the predetermined number of iterations and increases the iteration number for a next frame if the completion signal is not received within the predetermined number of iterations. The iteration number is changeable within maximum and minimum limits and may exceed the maximum limit in special cases.

Description

[0001] This application claims the benefit of Korean Patent Application No. 2002-1813 filed with the Korean Industrial Property Office on Jan. 11, 2002, which is incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0002] The present invention relates to a decoding device having a turbo decoder and an RS decoder connected in series, and more particularly, to a device for decoding a signal subjected to RS coding and turbo coding and a decoding method thereof. Background technique [0003] Generally, to correct errors in a channel, a wireless digital communication system uses a method of adding error correction codes at the transmitting end and a method of correcting errors at the receiving end. One encoding method used for error correction is quick encoding. Turbo coding is used in channels requiring high data rates, such as Code Division Multiple Access 2000 (CDMA2000) used in the United States, and Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (W-CDMA) used in Europe. [0004] fi...
