Problems solved by technology

Therefore, in many existing systems, nurses are required to check the patient frequently for sensor placement or unexpected sensor movement
Additionally, due to the physiognomy of the human airway, many devices tend to produce confounded readings for the patient's nostrils and mouth, failing to clearly distinguish and provide differentiated data on the inspiratory and exhalation steps

Abstract

An apparatus having a support structure, includes two nasal flow passages aligned with one another and with respect to a nasal respiratory flow direction, and an oral flow passage disposed transverseto the two nasal flow passages, along an oral respiratory flow direction. The nasal flow passages and oral flow passages have thermistors to monitor a patient's respiration, and the apparatus has a thermistor for monitoring ambient conditions and an accelerometer for monitoring movement of the apparatus. The apparatus also detects and distinguishes between oral and individual nasal air flows, andthe integration of the apparatus and the monitored data with a network is realized.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Patent Application No. 62 / 597,870, filed December 12, 2017, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates generally to medical sensors. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to respiratory sensors for continuous, persistent monitoring of an individual or patient, including measuring and analyzing a person's respiratory conditions and motion. Background technique [0004] Monitoring a person's breathing may be done for various reasons. For example, knowledge about a patient's breathing can help caregivers assess a patient's stability during surgery and recovery thereafter. Knowledge about a person's breathing can also aid in sleep-related treatments. [0005] Many approaches to respiratory sensors involve bulky devices that can obstruct a patient's airway. In many applications, the pat...
