The invention relates to an autonomous positioning method based on observation of a moonlight atmospheric polarization mode, and the method comprises the following steps: firstly obtaining the polarization degree and polarization azimuth angle information of night sky and moonlight through a moonlight atmospheric polarization sensor; secondly, determining a polarization degree threshold value according to the mean value of the moonlight polarization degree of each point in the sky, and screening out sky observation points which can be used for calculation; solving a moon elevation angle at thecurrent moment by utilizing the polarization degree and the polarization azimuth angle of the sky moon at night; and finally, calculating the position of the carrier by using two moon elevation angles at a fixed time interval.
