Abstract

An air conditioner and a method for controlling the same are disclosed. This air conditioner implements a multi-stage expansion scheme by realizing a series connection between electronic expansion valves included in an R410A refrigerant-based air conditioner, and thus ensures an optimal compression ratio in all cooling / heating load areas. Although the cycle characteristics are changed by changing the R410A refrigerant to the R32 refrigerant, the air conditioner only optimizes the cycle by individually controlling the opening of the electronic expansion valve. Since cycle optimization is realized by using a multi-stage expansion scheme coupled in series with conventional electronic expansion valves, design modifications are minimized without design modifications to necessary constituent elements (such as heat exchangers), which facilitates system implementation, High efficiencies in cost and productivity are thereby obtained.
