Abstract

Methods of transmitting blocks of incremental redundant coded bits are provided. Methods include concatenating, using an outer encoder, bits of an input bit vector to an outer encoded bit vector thathas fewer bits than the input bit vector, wherein the outer encoded bit vector includes a mixture of information bits from the input bit vector. Methods include encoding the outer encoded bit vector into inner encoded data that is mapped to multiple data transmission channels that each include a channel reliability value. A first portion of the data transmission channels is used to transmit information bits corresponding to the outer encoded bit vector and a second portion of the data transmission channels is used to transmit frozen bits that include no information.

Description

technical field [0001] The disclosed subject matter generally relates to telecommunications. Certain embodiments relate more specifically to concepts such as polar codes, hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ), incremental redundancy, and system information blocks. Background technique [0002] Polar codes proposed by Arikan [1] are the first class of constructional coding schemes that can be proven to achieve symmetric capacity for binary-input discrete memoryless channels under low-complexity sequential cancellation (SC) decoders. However, the limited-length performance of polar codes under SC may not be competitive compared with other modern channel coding schemes such as low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes and Turbo codes. In addition, SC-list (SCL) decoders are proposed, which can approach the performance of the best maximum likelihood (ML) decoders. By concatenating simple CRC codes, it is shown that the performance of concatenated polar codes is comparable to that...
