Abstract

The invention provides a device and method for measuring amplitude-frequency characteristics of an electro-optical intensity modulator based on optical sampling. The device comprises a mode-locked laser, an electro-optical intensity modulator to be measured, a microwave signal source, a direct-current voltage source, a low-frequency photodetector, a spectrum analyzer and a computer. According to the device and the method in the invention, amplitude-frequency response measurement of the broadband electro-optical intensity modulator is realized by utilization of low-speed optical down-conversionsampling; because optical down-conversion sampling has the characteristics of being low in sampling rate, large in analog bandwidth and high in precision, a measurement system has the advantages of being in low-frequency detection and free from calibration of the photodetector; and in addition, compared with the existing low-frequency detection method, the measurement system only utilizes the single micro-wave signal source, and is simple in structure and relatively low in cost.
