The invention provides a projection system brightness adjusting method; the projection system comprises a lighting device and a light valve; the lighting device is used for emitting lights of at leasttwo colors; the light valve is used for receiving the lights of at least two colors, and modulating images according to inputted image data so as to display projection frames; the method comprises the following steps: obtaining to-be-projected projection brightness of the projection system; obtaining each color light intensity preset ratio corresponding to the to-be-projected projection brightness; forming each color light modulation signal according to the each color light intensity preset ratio and the inputted image data; inputting each color light modulation signal into the projection system light valve. The light valve modulates the images in a time period of the lighting device emitting the corresponding color light according to each color light modulation signal, thus enabling eachcolor light intensity ratio of the projection system true projection image to be equal to each color light intensity preset ratio.
