The method comprises: using the tracking result of a previous frame as the initial coordinate for the tracking of a current frame; calculating the color histogram characteristics of calibration frames of the previous frame and the current frame; calculating the offset coordinate according to the initial coordinate, the color histogram characteristics and the coordinates of the pixel points in the calibration frame at the initial position; calculating the difference between the offset coordinate and the initial coordinate as the offset amount; and when the offset amount is less than or equal to a preset offset threshold, completing the tracking process wherein the offset coordinate is the tracking target coordinate. This method can reduce the processing range of an image, reduce the computational cost, improve the recognition accuracy when multiple targets overlap, and greatly improve the tracking efficiency and tracking accuracy.
